Our first half-term

Image
Alhamdulillah our children have been going to school since September of this year. I was really worried for them thinking whether we are doing the right thing for them. Alhamdulillah they are really enjoying school. Even when they are sick, they don't want to miss school! I used to find excuses not to go to school ;-)  It's their first half term since they started school. So I have been quite excited about this half term. So far we have been having lots of fun learning. I hope to share our adventures through videos and photos inshAllah. I love blogging their activities as it really helps me to keep a record of most of the activities they do on a weekly basis. They also love it. Besides, I would love to hear from you about what you have been up to during the half term. We can always learn from each other. Happy holidays :-) Make the most of these precious days and create sweet memories to cherish forever inshAllah.  Im has been playing with his beloved cars. He has been ...

August update

Bismillah... In the name of Allah the Most-Merciful Alhamdulillah we have been quite busy this month. Arabic and French classes going quite well alhamdulillah. Kids are settled now. Although I am not really happy with the French lessons, I may pull them out in September and carry on sending them for the Arabic lessons on weekends. The Arabic lessons are quite well-planned mashAllah. They are using Arabic Made Easy Foundation 1 book (My little world) and the handwriting book from the same series. They are learning new words in every session.  For Qur'anic Arabic, they are using Ahsanul Qawayid. I have met the teachers last week. They are very friendly mashAllah, especially the Arabic teacher. She suggested that our kids should watch Arabic kids channels so that they can get used to Arabic pronunciation. I am watching Jeem channel Sky 823 with them and trying to translate as much as possible. It is quite an westernized channel, I must admit. I need some good Muslim c...

August 2013

Bismillah Alhamdulillah we have been quite busy. Children are growing so quickly! MashAllah! I am writing this post while Im is hoovering the sitting room :-) He just helped me bake a Oreo cake. We were suppose to make brownies but ended up making a cake. They told me it's delicious. I haven't tasted the cake yet as I am fasting. This is my first fast after the Eid ul Fitr last week, Thursday 8th of August. I hope to do all of the missed fasts and the fasts of Shawwal inshAllah by this month.  Today, Im put quite a lot of peppermint oil on the stairs :-( The oil is quite hard to find and it's quite expensive too. The whole house smells of peppermint! I hope no mouse comes to our place inshAllah for a long time!  I have been having my driving lessons for a year now. My practical is due next week Friday. I don't think I am ready yet so will postpone inshAllah. I may do my one in October as that's when the nearest date is available. InshAllah I hope I can be...

Meet Bilal the Bear

Alhamdulillah we love reading stories together as a family. Sometimes we do our own shows. Quite recently, my son Im has started capturing photos and creating videos with my phone. He is kind of obsessed with this newly found hobby. This one below is one of them. Enjoy! We hope to capture more of our daily activities in future, bi'idnillah.

Flexi-schooling

Image
Best of both worlds: The new trend of flexi-schooling By Helen McNulty Thursday, 20 May 2010 , Published by the Independent Niamh, aged six and a half, is in our garden at home, looking inside our chickens' nesting box for eggs. Afterwards, she goes in to read her picture encyclopaedia, occasionally pausing to tell me something new or to ask a question. It's a Thursday in term time, but she's not at school. Nor does she attend on Tuesday or Friday afternoons, although she's a registered school pupil. Niamh isn't truanting – she's flexi-schooling. Education shared between home and school is a legal option for any schoolchild, if the head teacher agrees. The exact number of flexi-pupils in this country is unknown, but there are thought to be about 400, mainly in primary schools, and numbers are slowly growing. Some parents, like me, want a compromise between full-time home-educating and full-time school. At first, I considered home education...
